Printmaking Workshops

£30.00

Categories: ,

Come and develop your creative skills at a linocut printmaking Sunday morning workshop with me. There are three dates available and you can attend 1 or more of them, depending on how much you want to develop your skills and explore your creativity.

Linocut is a reductive printmaking method, where you carve out the negative spaces of your design, leaving a positive printing area that allows you to make multiple prints of the same image. It is one of my favourite creative practicies and can be highly theraputic on many levels, from the creative process of designing, to the highly satisfing carving process and of course finally the culmination of your work in the printing process, where there are so many options of colours and surfaces to explore.

Workshop content:

If you choose to opt for just 1 workshop, you will get to:

  • Engage with an introduction to the linocut process with a technical discussion and demonstration.
  • Choose from a range of simplified designs appropriate for the linocut process or design your own simple image with specialist guidance.
  • Cut your own lino block.
  • Print your lino several times, reflecting each time with expert guidance on how to improve the cutting or printing processes for best results.
  • Walk away with your completed prints!

If you choose to opt for 2 of the workshops, in the second one you will get to:

  • Build on your skills and experience from the first session.
  • Explore how to create more intricate designs, including foreground and backgrounds using the difference between positive and negative spaces.
  • Design and cut a larger lino block.
  • Print up your designs, refining your block and printmaking each time with expert guidance.

If you choose to opt for all 3 workshops, in the third one you will get to:

  • Build on the skills and experience recieved in sessions 1 and 2.
  • Explore the work of professional linocut artists and analyise what makes a good design.
  • Work on a larger scale to develop a design of your choice in consultation with expert guidance.
  • Draw, cut and print your work, exploring additional techniques such as chin colle.
